APA is a citation style and format of writing academic documents such as journals,articles, and books. APA citation format is commonly used in the field of behavioral and social science. APA stands for American Psychological Association (APA), the style was developed to help in reading comprehension in the social and behavioral sciences for the purpose of clarity of communication and for choosing words(which reduces language biasing).

History of APA

The APA was first introduced in journal publishing in 1923. The first edition of the APA Publication Manual was published in 1952.

The guidelines for reducing bias in language have been updated over the years and presently provide practical guidance for writing about race, ethnicity, age,gender, sexual orientation, and stability status (APA,2009, pp.70-77:see also APA,2009b).

In text citation APA:

APA in-text citation style uses the author’s last name and the year of publication, for example: (Field, 2005). For direct quotations, include the page number as well, for example: (Field, 2005, p. 14). For sources such as websites and e-books that have no page numbers, use a paragraph number.
